Classes start August 16, 2021

It is clear to me that Phoenicians are looking for classical, Christian homeschool groups. We offer community and accountability to conservative families which is what we all want and need. The interest has been so great we have doubled our numbers last year, and again, even during a COVID year, we doubled our numbers. God is so good and bringing really wonderful families to add to our number. May we continue to glorify and honor Him in all that we do, and raise up wonderful children that will follow after Read More …

New at Excelsior: Afternoon Classes for All

We’ve added afternoon classes (from 1-2pm) to our line up now. They will be enrichment classes for Primary-4th grade. 5th and 6th will do classical studies and science. 7th grade and 8th grade will do Classical studies or Geography III and Literature. Highschool level classes will continue to do highschool science. This does not cost any extra and is already included in the tuition. Not all moms may be able to want to stay for the afternoon, depending on little ones nap schedules and such, but most definitely will.

AFHE – Annual Homeschool Conference

Pauline Abello will be working at the Memoria Press homeschool booth on Friday, July 16 through Saturday July 17. Come see the curriculum or to chat with her more about the co-op. You also can fill out the interest form on the tab above to connect as well. Update from Pauline: this year was new being at GCU (always it had been at the Phoenix Convention Center) and I would say we did really well. Families I spoke to at the conference ended up joining Excelsior and I would say Read More …

Homeschool Co-op Valentine’s Party 2021

I love Valentine’s Day. It’s so fun to to celebrate and share our love for our family and friends. Some people object to Valentine’s Day because they say we should share our love every day. And I do agree with that–but like every other holiday–it’s a fun break from the normal where we go out of our way to do extra special things. If we did extra special things every day it wouldn’t be extra special…it would be normal. So I think we should shower our love every day, but Read More …

Teen Paradise Valley 4H Baking Day

Our 4H group of teen/tween girls learned out how to decorate gourmet cakes! They had an absolute blast and learned a really wonderful skill that they’ll carry through their whole life long! 4H is an organization that has been around since the early 1900s as a way for children to learn life skills outside of school. At HLSPV, while we pursue a rigorous classical education, we also make time to learn life skills such as baking, knitting, gardening and more.

The New College Entrance Exam for Classical Students

This is very exciting, finally a test that is designed to test the knowledge that we have been teaching our classical homeschool students. While you don’t have to be a classical student to take this test, students of all backgrounds will vastly prefer this test as it is not boring and tedious. “The classic in Classic Learning Test refers to its use of the greatest and most enduring texts that have informed and shaped society. Although these texts are featured prominently in a classical education, the CLT instead emphasizes intellectual aptitude and Read More …

The Gift We Have Been Given

Today at the American Heritage Festival we witnessed a re-enactment of a Revolutionary War skirmish. 90% of the battles that took place in that war were small-scale skirmishes much like we witnessed. As a mother, my perspective observing is much different than what I would have felt when I was younger. Seeing these young men fall on the battlefield brought tears to my eyes. I felt silly knowing that it was all pretend. Why do I get so emotional! I tried to subtlety wipe my eyes lest anyone see me Read More …
