Excelsior Crest:
The Meaning of the Crest:
Excelsior means “Ever Higher” – It’s a phrase they learn in Latina Christiana. It is also the motto of the state of New York. We like it because it happens to have the word “Excel” in it – which is what we do! The mascot is the double edged sword. It appears on the logo in the middle and looks a lot like a cross (intentionally). The shield is surrounded with olive branches (a nod to the classical cultures of Greece and Rome that we study), the sword in the middle with a Bible (Hebrews 4:12 God’s Word is sharper than a double edged sword. Also in Ephesians 6:17 “grasp the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.) The Bible has the letters Alpha and Omega (alpha and omega are the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet, – Revelation 22:13 God says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.).
