The Mother’s Role in the Fight for Freedom

paradise valley homeschool field trip liberty festival

The Liberty Festival is put on by We Make History and it’s been on my bucket list for a long time to take the kids. I believe it’s so important that we teach our children the grand history of this amazing country. So many young people have forgotten what the great men of the past fought and died for. If we don’t teach them how will they know?

How can they ever comprehend the words of Nathan Hale as he was about to be hanged:

“My only regret is that I have but one life to lose for my country.”

-Nathan Hale, September 22, 1776

or Patrick Henry in his rousing speech he made to the Second Virginia Convention:

“Give me liberty or give me death!”

-Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775

If we don’t teach them, who will? It is our duty to pass on this gift of freedom we have been given. It saddens and worries me how many young people hate our country and hate our founding fathers. They try and pick apart their sins and find any fault in them, and then, after finding fault, act like everything they did, including this nation and what is was founded upon, ought to be null and void.

We must resist this. It is our sacred duty as mothers and citizens. We do not fight this battle for freedom as our founding fathers did, with guns and swords. We fight this battle from the comfort of our home and at our dinner table discussions. But it is no less important. There is a battle for our children’s minds and we have the advantage. They belong to us. God entrusted them to us. Do not give up your high ground! Guard their hearts and minds as it is your duty to do so until they are able to do so on their own. Fight the good fight! Create memories and teach the children what you know, love and hold dear.

This. This is our battlefield. We will raise these children up in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it.
